Frequently Asked Questions
What is facial rejuvenation?
Facial rejuvenation refers to the use of injectable products to reduce the signs of natural aging, such as wrinkles, creasing and sagginess. Injectable products include Botox Cosmetic and dermal fillers. Botox Cosmetic softens, and can even eliminate, wrinkles and creases. Facial fillers are used to restore age-related volume loss, which is one of the major culprits of facial aging.
Who can benefit from Botox Cosmetic and facial fillers?
Anyone seeking non-surgical correction of the signs of facial aging: unwanted wrinkles, sagginess, pronounced creases and volume deficiency. Ideal candidates are in good overall health and seeking temporary correction with little to no downtime.
What’s the difference between Botox Cosmetic and facial fillers?
Botox Cosmetic works by softening the ability of facial muscles to contract, thereby smoothing the appearance of any overlying wrinkles or creases. Facial fillers act by restoring facial volume that has been lost by virtue of the natural aging process.
How often should I have dermal filler treatments?
Sometimes multiple treatment sessions separated by a two week time interval are needed to achieve the desired treatment goals early on. After optimal correction, a touch-up should generally be done within 6-8 months in order to maintain the desired result.
Will my results look natural?
The goal of facial rejuvenation is always to produce a natural result. This generally involves subtle restoration of facial balance by correcting areas of age-related volume loss.
Who should administer dermal filler injections?
Although many types of practitioners can administer dermal filler injections, there are several advantages to seeing a plastic surgeon. A plastic surgeon has extensive knowledge of facial anatomy and is an expert in facial aesthetics by virtue of years of dedicated training and study. This comprehensive training and expertise not only ensures a beautiful and natural result, but also allows your provider to act quickly in the rare event that an adverse reaction should occur.
How do I know which filler is best for me?
The Juvederm Collection of Fillers offers five fillers that are well-designed to address age-related volume loss in specific areas of the face. They are all hyaluronic acid based dermal fillers and are considered extremely safe and effective. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance in the body that hydrates the skin and helps it to appear more youthful. Voluma addresses volume loss in the cheeks, which leads to a “saggy” or “falling” face. Juvederm corrects volume loss around the mouth and nose. Volbella adds subtle volume to the lips and can be used to treat those pesky vertical lip lines.
What should I do to prepare for my injectable appointment?
Please avoid fish oils, aspirins and NSAIDS, such as Advil or Alleve, for at least one week prior to your appointment in order to minimize your risk for bruising.
